A Megabucks jackpot of more than $9.6 million was won Wednesday night in a casino owned by one of the founders of the slot machine company that manufactures Megabucks machines.
Cathie Allred, a 37-year-old St. George, Utah, resident, hit the jackpot at Si Redd's Oasis in Mesquite at 7:15 p.m., an Oasis spokesperson said.
The Oasis, formerly the Peppermill, was founded by Si Redd, who with his wife started International Gaming Technology in the mid-1970s. IGT has since captured 75 percent of the U.S. gaming-machine market through such concepts as multi-coin machines and three pay lines.
Allred became the 52nd winner of IGT's most famous slot machines, when she lined up three Megabucks symbols on a $3 play and won $9,632,620.42.
Allred, a district manager for St. George's Spectrum newspaper, was in Mesquite with her husband for dinner, and said she comes to the Oasis about twice a month.
