City television station faces restriction

Responding to criticism, the city of Las Vegas has put restrictions on coverage that will be provided by a taxpayer-funded multimillion-dollar television station.

The city council has approved guidelines to prevent the government channel from being used for political purposes.

Communications Director David Riggleman said the station is to be used primarily to broadcast city council meetings and city-produced programs on government services.

Under the guidelines, the station - KCLV-TV - is not to be used to build support for a particular political policy, program, issue, party or individual.

The station has come under fire from critics who say it is using public funds to promote political agendas for various city officials.
