McCarran traffic up 10.4 percent in March

Wednesday, April 19, 2000 | 10:44 a.m.

Some 3.3 million passengers passed through McCarran International Airport in March resulting in a 10.4 percent increase over March 1999's total of 3 million, the airport said today.

For the first quarter of 2000, McCarran traffic is up 9.8 percent over 1999's first quarter, with 8.8 million passengers compared with 8 million.

Among the top five carriers serving McCarran, passenger increases in March for Southwest Airlines, America West Airlines and Delta Air Lines offset declines in counts reported by United and American airlines.

American, which said earlier this month it plans to cut 10 Las Vegas flights later this year, reported a 13.3 percent decrease in traffic, from 245,933 in March 1999 to 213,245 last month.

Southwest showed an increase of 8.1 percent, from 792,287 in March 1999 to 856,465 last month.
