Newark to be LV airline’s ninth destination

Las Vegas-based National Airlines will launch service to Newark, N.J., in mid-July with two nonstop round-trip flights a day from Las Vegas.

Newark International Airport will be the airline's ninth destination and will augment existing nonstop service between Las Vegas and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Newark, an international gateway airport, has been on National's list of proposed destinations since the airline began flying in May 1999.

Flights from Las Vegas to Newark will leave at 12:40 and 10:50 p.m., arriving at 8:20 p.m., and 6:30 a.m., respectively. Flights will leave Newark at 7:50 a.m., and 11:55 p.m., arriving at McCarran International Airport at 10:30 a.m., and 11:55 p.m., respectively. The three afternoon departures begin July 13 and the morning flight from Newark begins July 14.

The lowest fare listed for the flight is $328 round trip for a coach seat purchased at least 14 days in advance of flying. Unrestricted first-class seats sell for $1,378 round trip.

National, which is partially owned by Harrah's Entertainment Inc. and has partnerships with the Harrah's Las Vegas hotel-casino and the Rio hotel-casino, will operate flights on 175-passenger Boeing 757 twin-engine jets.

The airline operates nonstop flights between Las Vegas and Chicago's Midway airport, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, San Francisco and New York.
