Workers’ comp premiums to increase
Monday, April 17, 2000 | 11:21 a.m.
Nevada employers are facing a change in the rates they pay for workers' compensation insurance with premiums rising an average of 6.3 percent.
State Insurance Commissioner Alice Molasky-Arman said today she will hold a public hearing Thursday in Carson City with a televised hookup to Las Vegas to receive comments from the public on the increase.
The National Council on Compensation Insurance, which has been an adviser to Molasky-Arman, is recommending the rate change. For some employers, there will be a decrease in premiums while others will be hit with increases larger than the average 6.3 percent increase.
The actual change for an employer will vary depending on the type of business. And insurance companies can offer a 15 percent reduction on the standard rate approved by Molasky-Arman.
If approved the rate change will be effective July 1.
