Alertness increases after fire at Washoe jail
Monday, April 17, 2000 | 4:48 a.m.
Sheriff's deputies said prisoners were confined to their cells after the outage and there were no immediate problems.
Authorities established a perimeter around the jail to discourage inmates from thinking about escaping, deputies said.
Electricians were working to restore power to the jail, but deputies had no idea when lights would go back on.
Plans called for suspects to be booked at another facility until power is restored.
Back-up generators were being used to light portions of the jail.
