Las Vegas area fishing report

Thursday, April 13, 2000 | 10:18 a.m.

LAKE MEAD: Anglers are enjoying good action for largemouth bass while there continues to be sporadic success for striped bass, according to the Nevada Division of Wildlife.

Largemouth bass are in their spawning mode and are being found in coves throughout the lake at depths of three to 10 feet. Spinner baits, artificial worms and jigs are catching the fish.

Stripers are somewhat tricky to catch with the secret to success being to first locate the fish. When schools are located with fish finders, boaters are chumming and drifting baits in deep water.

NDOW has suspended its rainbow trout plants until fall when the water temperature will again be low enough to allow stocking to resume.

LAKE MOHAVE: Anglers who were fishing for largemouth bass over the weekend reported to the Nevada Division of Wildlife creel clerks that they had very good success. The action has been particularly good in the Cottonwood Cove area with most coves holding bass.

A Silver State Bass Club fishing tournament that was held Sunday resulted in 21 bass being caught and released by 12 anglers. The largest largemouth weighed 4.54 pounds while the largest stringer was 20.83 pounds.

Striped bass fishing was slow over the weekend with anglers struggling to catch fish.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Fishing has been very good for rainbow trout because of recent stocking by the Nevada Division of Wildlife. The next plant is scheduled for today. (Thursday).

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Fair to good success was found over the weekend for stocked rainbow trout. Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs were stocked with rainbow trout last week by the Division of Wildlife.
