They said Armando Pizano, 61, was arrested on Friday and was being held in an intake unit where new inmates are screened before being place in the general population. He was the only person in his cell.
A deputy saw Pizano in his cell at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday. He did not respond to an intercom inquiry 15 minutes later and was found sitting on the floor with a sheet around his neck attached to a bracket on an upper bunk.
Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
An investigation is under way.
