Savvy wine buys: Chardonnay ‘98
Wednesday, April 12, 2000 | 9:53 a.m.
This is one wine you won't find at any local supermarket. It is, in fact, one of the wine world's best-kept secrets. Several of our best restaurants, Spago to name one, pour it by the glass and are proud of it. Winemaker Layle Heron is a native of Denmark. She makes only Chardonnay and an equally well respected Merlot. Like most good Chardonnays, it is barrel aged. It is also a trifle tropical, fragrant but not overwhelmed by oak and has a nice fullness in the mouth.
Available at Spirits Plus, $8.99, and Lee's Discount Liquors, $9.99.
