Man pleads guilty to attempted murder of teens

Wednesday, April 12, 2000 | 5:06 a.m.

An 18-year-old man pleaded guilty Wednesday to attempted murder in the shooting of two teen-agers just days before he was involved in another shooting at a local high school.

Maynor Villanueva will spend the next four to 20 years in prison as a result of a plea bargain reached Wednesday.

In exchange for the admission of guilt, the district attorney's office will not seek gang-related charges that could have added significant prison time.

The shooting was on Oct. 2, just nine days before Villanueva and a juvenile accomplice were involved in a shooting at Clark High School. Villanueva has already pleaded guilty in that shooting.

In the Clark High School shooting, Villanueva faces the possibility of life in prison with or without parole because of a new law that stiffens penalties for a non-fatal shooting on school grounds.

Tony Tejada, 14, is charged as a juvenile in the Oct. 11 Clark High shooting, but as an adult in the earlier shooting where a 16-year-old boy was shot in the arm and a 16-year-old girl was shot in the back.
