SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Ben & Jerry's Homemade, the ice cream maker founded by two former hippies and known for its blend of quirky flavors and social activism, is being sold to the world's largest ice cream maker, multinational giant Unilever PLC.
The deal is valued at $326 million.
Unilever was also making a purchase today at the opposite end of the weight scale -- it is buying privately owned Slim-Fast Foods Co. of Florida for $2.3 billion.
