First ballgame is Fan Appreciation Day
Community College of Southern Nevada is holding a free Fan Appreciation Day 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday on the Henderson campus, 700 College Drive for the college's first baseball game of the season -- a doubleheader against Pasadena City College, Calif.
Bleacher seating is available, but fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Call 651-7300.
Children's museum sponsors science event
Science programming and workshops are the focus for National Science and Technology Week April 17-21 at the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
This is the fifth year the museum has been designated the official state site for the program, which is coordinated through the National Science Foundation to promote science awareness and appreciation in children. Admission to the museum is $5 for adults and $4 for seniors, military personnel and children.
In addition the museum will have programs for National Sense of Smell Day on April 29. Call 382-3445.
Fund-raiser to be held at Hammargren home
A fund-raiser for the Clark County Republican Party is being hosted by former Lt. Gov. Lonnie Hammargren and his wife, Sandy, 1-5 p.m. Saturday at the Hammargren Home of Nevada History, 4300-4318 Ridgecrest Drive.
Hammargren acquired a mining train 13 years ago and is just finishing the tracks, which will circle the perimeter of his home.
A ceremony to drive a golden spike and a silver spike to mark the completion will be held at 3 p.m.
Cost is $25 and casual railroad attire is suggested. For more information, call 258-9184.
Family history is topic of next genealogy talk
Carole Merrill, consultant of the LDS Lone Mountain Stake of the Family History Library, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Jewish Genealogy Society-West at 1 p.m. Sunday in the first floor multipurpose room of the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

Volunteers sought for Boulder Basin
Rangers from the Boulder Basin district of Lake Mead National Recreation Area are looking for volunteers to assist in the contact stations at Callville Bay, Las Vegas Bay and Boulder Beach.
