Private attorney Andrea Beckman has been recommended to be the next executive director of the Metro Police Civilian Review Board.
The Clark County Commission will vote on the recommendation April 18, with the City Council scheduled to vote on her hiring April 19.
If approved, Beckman would make between $68,000 and $96,000 annually.
County Manager Dale Askew and City Manager Virginia Valentine conducted the search for the executive director. Two members of the original citizens committee that proposed the ordinance to create the review board gave input to Askew and Valentine to help narrow the field to the five finalists.
Beckman was chosen from a field of 15 candidates. The other finalists were Senior Deputy Attorney General Bridget Branigan, Chief Deputy Attorney Richard Linstrom, Senior Deputy Attorney General Paul Lychuk and former North Las Vegas Assistant City Attorney Mark Zalaoras.
Beckman has more than 20 years' experience, both as a prosecutor and defense attorney. She was a prosecutor for five years in the Arapahoe County, Colo., District Attorney's office and operated her own criminal defense law firm in Englewood, Colo., for more than seven years.
She moved to Las Vegas in 1993, working as criminal defense attorney for Penrod and Associates.
