Letter: Gore would just tax and spend
Tuesday, April 11, 2000 | 9:31 a.m.
If not for the Republican win in 1994, welfare reform and an almost balanced budget would never have been achieved.
President Clinton, the ultimate political chameleon, has taken credit for these conservative policies and a complacent and generally under-educated citizenry has swallowed his lies.
Scaring seniors about the viability of Social Security and Medicare is disgraceful but it is also a liberal tactic. Just suppose the liberals had a majority since 1994 and then gauge how much more debt would have been accumulated. Social Security and Medicare would really be in jeopardy sooner.
What is wrong with allowing workers to invest 5 percent of their Social Security taxes in their own account?
Our government owes almost a trillion dollars to the Social Security, which was spent on many failed social programs by the Democrats.
The shame is that while funding failed programs, which discouraged accountability and responsibility, our educational and social systems were degraded.
If we want a more ethical and moral government, Vice President Al Gore comes in a decided second considering his 1996 fund-raising activities. His election would be a return to tax-and-spend government. I am sure!
