Henry Kilmer was chosen Friday after a national search by the Storey school board.
He was one of three finalists, 10 semi-finalists and 56 candidates for the post. His salary range was set at $75,000 to $80,000.
"Based on his answers, his demeanor and his PR campaign so far, I think he would make a good fit," said board member Cynthia Waldow.
Kilmer is expected to assume the post in July.
The other finalists were from Montana and Michigan.
The job drew 11 applicants from California and nine from Nevada.
