A 1,000-megawatt natural gas-fueled power plant will be built at Apex by the largest electricity producer in the United States.
Southern Energy Inc., a division of Southern Co., Atlanta, is developing the plant as part of a strategic alliance with Apex Industrial Park Inc., which operates a 10,000-acre site about 15 miles north of Las Vegas on Interstate 15.
Dave Carver, president of Apex Industrial Park, said the power plant would serve a diverse clientele at the park, including light industrial companies, traditional distribution facilities and support companies. The park already has Georgia Pacific, a gypsum processing operation, Silver State Disposal Service Inc., which operates a landfill, and Chemical Lime Co., a limestone construction products manufacturer.
Carver said Southern has a large economic development department that will recruit businesses to establish a presence at the park and buy electricity from the plant.
