Open house to be held at Sunrise Health Strategies

The Las Vegas Parkinson's Foundation's "Center of Excellence" will host its first open house 2-6 p.m. Tuesday at Sunrise Health Strategies, a comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation facility, 3131 La Canada St. The open house coincides with Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month in April. Augustine to serve on Women in Government Award committee

State Controller Kathy Augustine will serve on the 12-member Good Housekeeping Women in Government Award Selection Committee.

The magazine and the Center for American Women and Politics choose women of outstanding achievement in local, state and federal governments. The winner receives $25,000 and nine runners-up get $2,500. Their names will be announced in June in Washington, D.C. The Southern Nevada Water Authority received the Bureau of Reclamation's 1999 Water Conservation Award for the development of its five-year water conservation plan.

The plan covers 1999 to 2004 and is supplemented with a water budget and water resource plan. It includes a multitude of conservation measures.

The Southern Nevada Water Authority is the only organization to receive an award in the planning category.

Crime Service Award granted to crisis training organization

A Southern Nevada organization that trains volunteers to provide crisis services to victims of crime has been selected to receive the Crime Victims Service Award.

Trauma Intervention Program Inc. is among 11 individuals and organizations selected among victim advocates, service providers and criminal justice professionals across the country to receive this award. The award is the highest federal honor for victim advocacy. It will be presented in Washington, D.C., on April 19.

Uniforms To You receives donation

The Greater Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Foundation received a $1,000 donation this month from Uniforms To You, a company that provides uniforms to the hospitality, gaming, health care and transportation industries.

The foundation was established to coordinate partnerships between employers, educators, residents and students.

Its Leadership Las Vegas Youth Program identifies 44 high school juniors who have demonstrated leadership abilities and provides them with a 14-week program that gives them an inside look at the processes and challenges that drive local businesses and the community.

Uniforms To You also donated 500 garments to Matthew's Closet, a program sponsored by Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada.

Station Foundation spreads donations wide

Station Foundation, the Station Casinos community service and charitable foundation, recently donated more than $75,000 to 19 local organizations and charities.

Problem Gambling Consultants Inc. received $50,000 to establish a treatment clinic for problem gamblers in Las Vegas who cannot pay for treatment. The new clinic, at 3150 Tenaya Way, is operating and treats patients daily.

Other fund recipients include the Clark County Treasurer to build a 12-foot statue of Martin Luther King in Memorial Square; Nathan Adelson Hospice to support its fashion show; the Royal Family Kids Camp Las Vegas; the YMCA of Southern Nevada; Academic Support & Community Services for Nevada Reading Week; Boy Scouts of America, Boulder Dam Area Council; Clark County Parks and Recreation; Desert Rose Productions for its Forgotten Heroes of the Confederacy program and DRI Research.

Donation reaches Red Cross from Southwest Gas

Southwest Gas donated $2,500 this month to the Disaster Services fund of the local American Red Cross.

The money will be used to meet some of the extra expenses the chapter has faced in helping victims of recent fires.
