Ventnor man dies after apparent jump from casino garage

Wednesday, April 5, 2000 | 9:16 a.m.

Sgt. Michael Tullio said the man went to the Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino parking garage on Mississippi Avenue, went up to the ninth floor "and apparently committed suicide by leaping to his death."

Tullio said the man had been a dealer at the Sands Hotel Casino for about 10 years. Police were withholding the man's identity for the time being, he said.

"He has a large, immediate family in the area and we haven't been able to contact them all," Tullio said.

The apparent suicide occurred at 4:28 p.m. Tullio said an ambulance responded and took the man to the Atlantic City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m.

"As far as the family knows, there were no problems that they were aware of. It was a shock to them," Tullio said.

He said no suicide note had been found, but investigators are treating the death as a suicide.

During an eight-day period in August, three people killed themselves by leaping from casino buildings here.

A gambler who had lost $87,000 at the tables jumped off a Trump Plaza roof. A dealer at Caesars Atlantic City Hotel Casino leaped to his death from the casino's parking garage. Then a German tourist made a fatal jump from a Resorts Atlantic City parking garage.
