Ceremony marks rebuilding of Mormon Fort

The Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park will hold its grand opening at 11 a.m. Saturday to mark the completion of reconstruction of the fort.

Friends of the Fort will host a Dutch Oven Barbecue following the ceremony. The cost is $5; $2 for children under 12. Proceeds will go to the Fort Interpretive projects.

Two-day pet show to be held

The Las Vegas Cat Club is seeking entries for the Cat Fancier's Association annual Allbreed & Household Pet Cat Show.

The two-day event will be held April 15-16 at Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The deadline for entering cats is Sunday. Household cats can be entered for $30 and are judged on personality, health and good looks.

The show benefits the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a no-kill animal sanctuary. Animals from the shelter will be available for adoption. Call 873-7722.

'Savvy Media' eyed for parents, teens

The Barbara Greenspun WomensCare Center of Excellence at St. Rose Dominican Hospital will offer workshops "Media Savvy for Teens and Parents." The parent workshop will be 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday and the teen portion 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at 100 N. Green Valley Parkway, Suite 330.

The fee for the workshops is $10 per family and is open to both parents. Parent permission is required for the teen workshop and permission forms can be signed on Thursday at the parent workshop. Call 914-7060.

Former Charger addresses struggles

Former San Diego Charger place-kicker Rolf Benirschke will speak of his struggle with ulcerative colitis 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in the Adelson Auditorium, 3186 S. Four Seasons to welcome governor

The Nevada Law Foundation will hold its seventh annual Silver Ball 6 p.m. Saturday at the Four Seasons hotel-casino. Honorary chairpersons are Gov. Kenny Guinn and his wife, Dema, along with Marilyn Moran and Pam Brown as co-chairpersons.

Wedding design is topic of workshop

The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two floral wedding design workshops, 9:30 a.m.-noon Tuesday at the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway, and 9:30 a.m. April 20 at the Lorna J. Locals are invited 'Along the Way'

Parks department to host safety lab

The Nevada Division of Wildlife and the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department are co-hosting hunter's safety workshops 9 a.m-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Whitney Ranch Satellite Center, Galleria Drive and Patrick Lane. Enrollment is open to those 12 years and older. Call 486-5127.
