Letter: It’s easy to see GOP’s scheming
Tuesday, April 4, 2000 | 10:32 a.m.
While these prevaricators are pontificating about "protecting" Social Security funds from the safest investment possible, they are scheming to pull a shell game on seniors by proposing a "privatization" scam that will result in benefit cuts for current retirees and eventually the dismantling of Social Security altogether, replacing it with a risky gamble in the stock market for future retirees and a public assistance program and "soup kitchens" for only the "neediest" of seniors!
"Dubya" Bush has made this scheme part of his campaign agenda, having said in a recent TV interview, "I will get this done (privatization) because I will risk my political capital to get it done."
Now how much clearer can Republican intentions toward Social Security be made than this? A Republican Congress with a Republican president will allow the GOP to do what it has alway been determined to do destroy Social Security! It is all in the record, and just how much proof do seniors need to force them to not let this Republican takeover of our government happen? If every senior votes against Bush it will not happen. I am sure!
