One week after star defensive tackle recruit Kawika Sagapolu dropped out of school, UNLV's rebuilding football team has lost a second returning starter to academics.
H-back Jermaine Curtis, compared by Rebels head coach John Robinson to Shannon Sharpe a year ago when Curtis signed with UNLV out of Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College, won't be eligible to play next fall and his career as a Rebel is likely over.
"He won't be eligible next fall, but he might have a chance (to play again)," Robinson said. "I don't know if he can get back. For the most part, he's done."
Curtis, a JC All-American and former prep teammate of Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin at Williamson High School in Mobile, Ala., finished third on the team in receptions in 1999 with 14 catches for 125 yards and no touchdowns. Steve Guiremand
