Rebels drop 2 softball games

The UNLV softball team dropped both games of its Mountain West Conference doubleheader against Utah Sunday, falling 14-6 in the opener and 14-3 in the nightcap. ... Senior Katarina Malec upset fourth-ranked singles player and then partnered with Marianne Bakken to down the nation's No. 1 doubles team to lead the UNLV women to a 5-4 victory over host San Diego. ... New Mexico's Bart Scott came back to win tiebreakers in two sets, which was just enough to lead the Lobos past the UNLV men's tennis team 4-3 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
