Letter: Bryan’s stance on flag commended
Monday, April 3, 2000 | 8:42 a.m.
I believe most Americans can agree that the burning of our flag, a symbol of our precious freedoms, is abhorrent behavior. But a constitutional amendment is not the answer in addressing the issue. The flag is a symbol, not a sacrament. Men and women died for the freedoms the flag represents, not the flag itself.
Let us preserve our freedom to honor the flag in our own special way, not because the Constitution mandates it.
