Henderson City Council will meet at 7 p.m. at the Henderson City Hall, 200 Water Street.
The Henderson City Council is set to take its first official action Tuesday night on expanding the city's redevelopment area.
The Henderson Planning Commission and the Redevelopment Agency and Advisory Commission have recommended studying the expansion of the city's redevelopment area. The City Council will vote whether to fund the study.
The expansion could include the proposed site of the Nevada State College, the adjacent 2,400-acre Provenance master planned development, the economically depressed Pittman area and the planned Palm City development.
Areas designated for redevelopment are eligible for up to $1 of public redevelopment funds for every $10 of private funds. Extra tax revenue generated from new projects in turn go back into the redevelopment fund.
The LandWell Co., the real estate developing arm of Basic Management Inc., has maintained that redevelopment funds are vital to its plans to make its Provenance project a reality. It would request redevelopment money to move active evaporation ponds from the area.
LandWell had previously agreed to a land exchange with the city for the proposed college site in a trade that would give the developer close to 135 acres of city-owned land.
