Woman receives probation in fatal DUI crash

A 30-year-old woman responsible for a February collision that killed a Las Vegas man has been sentenced to five years probation and ordered to pay more than $44,000 in restitution.
Renel Kimberly Cordero had pleaded guilty to felony reckless driving and misdemeanor drunken driving over the incident at the Pecos-McLeod Interconnect near Desert Inn Road.
At Tuesday's sentencing, Deputy District Attorney James Hartsell noted that while Cordero was prosecuted, it was determined that the 32-year-old victim also was drunk.
Leo Mallonee's blood-alcohol level at the time of his death was 0.18 percent -- nearly twice what is required to prove drunken driving, Hartsell said.
If Cordero does not abide by the terms of her probation, District Judge Jeff Sobel ruled that she will have to serve a one-to-four-year prison term.
