Gallin resigns post with casino group

The man brought on board to generate new entertainment projects for Mirage Resorts Inc. has resigned, citing demands of the job and health concerns.
Sandy Gallin has stepped down as chairman and chief executive officer of Mirage Entertainment and Sports, Inc. He will continue to work for the company as a consultant.
"It was becoming increasingly obvious that the job demanded that I spend the vast majority of my time based in Las Vegas," Gallin said in a statement. "Following my recent bypass surgery, I realized that I wanted to be back in Los Angeles and New York, where I have spent my entire personal and professional life. It's that simple."
Gallin has maintained homes in the three cities since taking the Mirage post in June 1998.
Mirage Chairman Steve Wynn said following Gallin's surgery this summer, it became clear that entertainment projects being developed would require full-time supervision here.
"Sandy's lifelong relationships in California and New York forced him to make a choice not to reside full time in Las Vegas," Wynn said. "Fortunately, because of his deep friendships with all of us, it will allow him to continue his close relationship with our family."
Wynn said Gallin will act as advisor and consultant to complete work on "Miss Spectacular," a new musical being developed for the company's flagship Mirage hotel-casino.
Gallin will also "continue to look for new entertainment opportunities in New York and Los Angeles for our company," Wynn said.
Gallin left Hollywood last year as one of the most successful talent managers and film and television producers in the industry. He has guided the careers of many entertainment giants, including Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Whoopi Goldberg, Cher, Patti LaBelle, Richard Pryor, The Pointer Sisters and Mariah Carey.
Gallin's departure is the second by a key Mirage executive this month. Chief Financial Officer Dan Lee quit earlier in the month, saying he wanted to pursue other business opportunities.
