Biffle docked points, crew chief fined for illegal part

NASCAR announced Monday that Greg Biffle will be allowed the keep his victory in Friday night's The Orleans 250 Craftsman Truck Series event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway although he will be docked points and his crew chief will be fined.

A postrace inspection of the winnng No. 50 Roush Racing truck revealed it was fitted with an unapproved intake manifold.

Biffle was fined 120 championship points, the difference between first and 36th (last place) in the final race standings. He continues to lead Jack Sprague in championship points, 3,292-3,282.

Randy Goss, crew chief on Biffle's truck, will be a lot lighter in the wallet as he was nailed with a $48,860 penalty for the infraction.

Roush Racing said it would appeal the ruling.

In other Speedway news:

* Alan Wyatt, the daredevil who was airlifted to University Medical Center after sustaining injuries when he fell during rehearsal of a motorcycle jumping stunt that was planned for Sunday's Vegas.com 500, is expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday. Wyatt, of Medford, Ore., suffered a slight brain bruise when he toppled on the track apron Sunday morning. The demonstration was cancelled.

* Indy Racing League driver Donnie Beechler was released in good condition from UMC Sunday night after complaining of neck and chest pains following his mid-race crash. Beechler is expected to drive in the season-ending Lone Star 500 on Oct. 17.
