State jobless rate edges up

Nevada's unemployment rate increased four-tenths of a percentage point from July to 4.2 percent in August, a figure equal to August 1998.

Despite the increase, the number of jobs has increased 5.1 percent since August 1998, the state reported Friday.

The unemployment rate in the Las Vegas metro area in August was 4.5 percent, even with July and up from 4.4 percent in the year-ago month.
