Freeze hits north, Elko chills to 15
Monday, Sept. 27, 1999 | 9:54 a.m.
Some crop-nipping cold temperatures hit northern Nevada early today, with Elko's record 15 degrees leading the way.
That was a record for the date, 2 degrees colder than the old Sept. 27 mark, set back in 1936.
It also tied Elko with West Yellowstone, Mont., for the cold spot in the nation.
Tender plants took a beating elsewhere as well. Eureka chilled to 18, Ely to 22 and Winnemucca to 28. Reno stopped at a relatively mild 43.
Forecasters said tonight will bring more of the same and some areas could be even colder.
