Letter: ‘Rat Pack’ suit sparks outrage
Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999 | 9:47 a.m.
I have looked forward to seeing "The Rat Pack Is Back" for several weeks now, ever since my arrival in Las Vegas. I have always been a huge fan of David Cassidy and I knew that with him in the show, along with the other performers, it would be truly wonderful. And I still believe that, but I'll not be going to see the show anytime soon, at least not until I know the Sinatra siblings will not be able to profit off my ticket.
I am outraged that they have the nerve to sue the Desert Inn. But then, isn't everybody suing someone nowadays? Would the Sinatras rather nobody remember their father and the group he helped make famous? How would they then feel every time they heard an Elvis impersonator? Or see someone doing Marilyn, Judy, or Bogie. Would they then wish that we would remember their father and sing his songs?
It's a tribute, for God's sake. A simple tribute. It keeps the music alive for everyone, helps us remember, and it makes us feel good!
It's ironic that when I was a teenager and screaming my head off over David Cassidy, my parents took me with them to see Frank Sinatra. And I liked it. My friends thought I was crazy. Here with this show was my chance to have the best of both worlds again. I hope the Sinatras soon realize how silly this whole thing is. There are a few more things in this world to be concerned over.
