Gas rate cut decision goes to PUC

The groups now need the three-member Public Utilities Commission to approve the $20.9 million rate reduction. If that is done, it could become effective Nov. 1.
"It couldn't be at a better time for customers as we come into the cold season," said Roger Buehrer, a spokesman for Southwest Gas.
Buehrer said he did not yet have an estimate on how much a 12 percent rate decrease would reduce the average household's monthly bill.
The commission's regulatory operations staff and State Consumer Advocate Fred Schmidt signed the agreement with Southwest Gas.
