Record profit reported by Nevada builder

Kaufman and Broad Home Corp. of Los Angeles, the largest homebuilder in Las Vegas, today reported a record third-quarter profit of $38.2 million or 78 cents per share, up from $28.1 million or 68 cents in the year-ago quarter.
The profit was achieved despite a previously disclosed loss of 24 cents per share from unauthorized mortgage trading.
