James L. Battles

James L. Battles, 73, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 21, 1926, in Texas. A resident for six years, he was an auto mechanic, an Army and Air Force veteran and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by two daughters, Joyce Holte of Henderson and Sherri Seager of California; and two grandchildren.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, handled arrangements.

Claude R. Byrns

Claude R. Byrns, 44, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 30, 1954, in Nevada. A longtime resident, he was a driller.

No local services scheduled. Burial will be in Pioche. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson handled arrangements.

Mathew Corona

Mathew Corona, 87, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born June 8, 1912, in Roscoe, Pa. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired spot welder for NCR of Dayton, Ohio, and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; one daughter, Michelle Becker of Edgewood, N.M.; two sons, John Corona of Raleigh, N.C., and James Corona of Oxnard, Calif.; one sister, Jewel Grishkin of LaBelle, Pa.; and one grandchild.

Private services are being handled by Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

George R. Countess

George R. Countess, 64, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born June 27, 1935, in Chaptico, Md. A resident for five years, he was a sanitation engineer for Silver State Disposal Service and a Korean War Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Maple; two sons, Anthony Scott of Los Angeles and James Scott of Las Vegas; three daughters, Dedria Brownlee of Las Vegas, Sonia Bracey of Riverside, Calif., and Tracy Peoples of Bellflower, Calif.; his mother, Henrietta Countess of Warldow, Md.; two brothers, Harold Countess of Silver Springs, Md., and William Countess of Warldow; four sisters, Martha Daniels of Groveton, Md., Anna Albrighton of Warldow, Mary Nelson of Mechanicsville, Md., and Dorothy Countess of Silverton, Md.; and 11 grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled 11 a.m. Saturday in Tabernacle of Faith, 2030 Yale St. Burial will be private. American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane, is handling arrangements.

Elinor A. Dolan

Elinor A. Dolan, 75, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. She was born June 7, 1924, in Clymer, N.Y. A resident for 14 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by William and Phyllis Dolan of Las Vegas; Richard Dolan of Carson City; Raymond Dolan of West Seneca, N.Y.; one brother of and three sisters of Clymer; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services are pending. Valley Memorial Crematory, 745 W. Sunset Road No. 16, Henderson. is handling arrangements.

Louis Dyba

Louis Dyba, 63, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. He was born Nov. 13, 1935, in Wisconsin. A resident for 30 years, he was a painter.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; one son, William Roupe of Missouri; one daughter, Ada Roupe of Las Vegas; two brothers, Donald Dyba of Las Vegas and Bob Dyba of Florida; three sisters, Betty Johnston, Jeanette O'Day and Audrey Bernhagen, all of Florida; and two grandchildren.

No services scheduled. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Frank Halmilton Force Jr

Frank Halmilton Force Jr, 82, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born April 4, 1917, in Chicago. A resident for over 31 years, he was a retired employee of Firestone Tire Company, Marine Corps veteran, a life member of the Elks Boulder Lodge 1682, life member of the Lake Mead Yacht Club and member of the Lake Shore Yacht Club of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine J.; two sons, Ronnie Reynolds of Houston and Kim Reynolds of Phoenix; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are scheduled 11 a.m. Saturday in Bunker Memory Gardens. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

The family suggests donations to Multiple Sclerosis National Society, Desert Southwest Chapter.

Robert Clarence Genier

Robert Clarence Genier, 38, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born June 17, 1961, in Tucson, Ariz. A resident for 38 years, he was a plumber.

He is survived by one son, Rick Cody Genier, and three daughters, Sally Genier, Brenda Genier and Sue Genier, all of Las Vegas; his mother, Wanda Barker of Cumberland, Ky.; his father, Walter Genier, and one brother, Roy Genier, both of Las Vegas.

A memorial service is scheduled 3 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Lloyd E. Goudreau Sr

Lloyd E. Goudreau Sr., 83, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 15, 1915, in Cohoes, N.Y. A resident for 22 years, he was a sales manager for Liggett & Myers Tobacco for 35 years, a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by one daughter, Eileen McCoy of Phoenix; one son, Lloyd E. Goudreau Jr. of Henderson; one brother, Earl Goudreau of Albany, N.Y. and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to a 6 p.m. rosary today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Services are scheduled 9:30 a.m. Friday in Davis Paradise Valley Chapel. Burial will be in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Shirley L. Grosteffon

Shirley L. Grosteffon, 67, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 5, 1932, in Monroe, Mich. A resident for 13 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Dale M.; one son, Dale L. of Las Vegas; one daughter, Cynthia L. Eilander of Sterling, Mass.; one brother, James Barton of Sebring, Fla.; and two sisters, Iris Burkett of Monroe, and Jeanette Nevare of Florida.

Services were Wednesday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

Roger Elmo Hockersmith, 61, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 11, 1937, in Berryville, Ark. A resident for 10 years, he was a worker in the agriculture industry.

He is survived by his wife, Louise K.; one daughter, Linda K. Goodale, and one son, Mickee Lee Hockersmith, both of Winnemucca; his father and stepmother, Willis and Elta Louise Hockersmith of Oakley, Kan.; his mother, Wanda Satterfield of Rogers, Ark.; two brothers, Lanny Hockersmith and Terry Hockersmith, both of Oakley; four sisters, Connie Markel of Oakley, Julie Kite of Bullhead City, Ariz., Kathy Van Kirk of Sarasota, Fla., and Debbie Hall of Wichita, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon until 2 p.m. services Friday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

Marion B. Hunt

Marion B. Hunt, 88, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 2, 1911, in Los Angeles. A resident for 27 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Marion Bowers of Pahrump. Private services are being handled by American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane.

Joseph M. Jendrzejak

Joseph M. Jendrzejak, 54, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born April 5, 1945, in Boston. A resident for two years, he was a forklift driver for Recreational Vehicles Company, a Marine Corps veteran, a former worker of Wheeler's RV and active in the Showboat bowling leagues.

He is survived by his wife, Monica; two daughters, Joeann Morse of Phoenix and Michelle Jendrzejak of Las Vegas; one son, Joseph Jendrzejak Jr. of Boston; one sister, Sandra Jendrzejak of Henderson; one brother, John Jendrzejak of Las Vegas; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5 p.m. until the 7 p.m. memorial service Friday in Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd.

William R. Johnson

William R. Johnson, 54, of Las Vegas died Monday in Grand Canyon, Ariz. He was born May 6, 1945, in Hermosa Beach, Calif. A resident for 15 years, he was a bus driver for Nevada Charter.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, one son, William R. Johnson II, one stepson, Frederick Newman, his father, Byron Johnson, and two sisters, Heidi Elquist and Connie Graham, all of Las Vegas.

Private arrangements are being handled by Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

Maple Beasley Mabry

Maple Beasley Mabry, 50, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local care center. She was born July 13, 1949, in Altheimer, Ark. A resident for 31 years, she was a hotel guest room attendant.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; two daughters, Michelle Lyles of Henderson and Passion Gray-Hobbs of Las Vegas; two sons, Quincy Mabry and Lemario Mabry, four foster children, Latrina, Latrecha, David and Kent Gray, four brothers, Frank Beasley, James Gray, Prince Beasley and Raymond Gray, all of Las Vegas; five sisters, Myra Gray, Jearlean Beasley, Mary Foster and Hattie Gray, all of Las Vegas, and Lena Allen of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon-6 p.m. Friday at American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane, is handling arrangements. Services are scheduled 11 a.m. Saturday in Second Baptist Church, 500 Madison Ave. Burial will be in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

John P. McGowan

John P. McGowan, M.D., 70, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born May 16, 1929, in New York City. A resident for six years, he was a retired pathologist, fellow emeritus of the College of American Pathologists, member of the Knights of Columbus, fellow emeritus of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and a fellow emeritus of the College of Hematology.

He is survived by his wife, Anne E.; one daughter, Kathleen A. Capelle of Highland, Md.; five sons, Hugh T. McGowan of Peoria, Ill., Kevin P. McGowan of Omaha, Neb., Sean M. McGowan of Henderson, Michael D. McGowan of Chicago, and Daniel J. McGowan of Peoria; and six grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 12:30 p.m. today in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., handled arrangements.

Wilbur James Nelson Jr

Wilbur James Nelson Jr, 63, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Illinois. A resident for 15 years, he was a vacation time share agent.

He is survived by two sons, W.J. Nelson III of Florida and David Nelson of Texas; two daughters, Kara LeMier and Maria Cooper, both of Texas; his mother, Lois Nelson of Illinois; and nine grandchildren.

Dorothy J. Otts

Dorothy J. Otts, 56, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 7, 1943, in Mississippi. A 2 1/2 year resident, she was a certified nursing assistant.

She is survived by her husband, Lester; one son, Reginald Williams and one daughter, Lorie Williams, both of Las Vegas; his mother, Irene Nash of Illinois; one brother, Charles Nash of Phoenix; and two grandchildren.

Bernard Page, 82, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born May 14, 1917, in New York. A longtime resident, he was a sheet metal worker and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; one daughter, Jayne Kushner of Calif.; and three sons, Scott Page of Calabasas, Calif., Roger Page of California and Michael Page of Wyoming.

Jeffrey Raymond Romero

Jeffrey Raymond Romero, 37, of Las Vegas died Monday in North Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 27, 1961, in Denver. A resident for three years, he was a business manager for a hotel.

He is survived by his parents, Dorothy P. Cordova of Las Vegas and Raymond R. Romero of Colorado; two sisters, Bede Ramos and Mary Cordova, both of Las Vegas; and his grandparents, Max and Proxcida Cordova of Colorado.

Judy Kathryn Russell, 40, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born May 6, 1959, in Yakima, Wash. A resident for six years, she was a security officer for a casino.

She is survived by one daughter, Jenifer Jones of Yakima; one son, Bobby Jones of Las Vegas; her parents, Sandra and Allen Russell of Yakima; one brother, Charles Russell of Henderson; and her grandmother, Lela K. Walker of Yakima.

Alexander "Sparky" Sparkman Jr., 58, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local care center. He was born Oct. 4, 1940, in McNary, Ariz. A resident for 57 years, he was a keno writer.

He is survived by one daughter, Evelyn D. Calvin of Las Vegas; three sons, Angelo Porter of Las Vegas, Derrick Sparkman of Perris, Calif., and Alex T. Sparkman of Pittsburg, Calif.; two sisters, Johnie B. Wright of Las Vegas and Clara J. McCoy of Los Angeles; and seven grandchildren.

Clara A. Welch, 85, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born May 2, 1914, in Renown, Saskatchewan. A resident for five years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Myrna Garside of Mersed, Calif.; two sons, Larry Welch of Las Vegas and Ken Welch of Layton, Utah; one sister, Helen Egbert of Harlem, Mont.; one brother, Edd Bye of Cashmere, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
