Hospital wing to be named after Nevada’s most decorated WWII veteran

Jack Streeter's name would adorn a new wing of the VA Medical Center in Reno under the proposal offered by Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev.
Streeter, 77, fought in the Normandy invasion on D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded five Silver Stars, five Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars for his service throughout Europe. He was elected district attorney in Reno in 1950.
The special provision is included in the Veterans Millennium Health Care Act that passed the House Tuesday night on a vote of 369-46. The measure now goes to the Senate. Sens. Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Richard Bryan, D-Nev., are pushing the effort there.
"Naming this new hospital wing after Jack Streeter is an enduring gesture to show Nevada's appreciation for Jack's service to his country and to his community," Gibbons said.
