Organizing opponents prevailed 274-240 in Thursday's results, leaving Saint Marys the largest hospital in Nevada that does not have a nurses' union. Nurses at Washoe Medical Center and Elko General Hospital recently approved plans to unionize.
In August, skilled maintenance workers at Washoe Medical Center also voted against unionizing while a vote to organize service employees there was suspended after a majority cast ballots against joining a union.
