Mining study to be released in late September or early October

"We're pushing for the last week of September," Vanee Vines told the Elko Daily Free Press. "It's hard to say, when it's in review."
The original deadline for the study was July 31. The release of the report is tied to completing the U.S. Bureau of Land Management's revised surface mining regulations.
Congress said the U.S. Department of Interior and its BLM can't publish the final regulations and an environmental impact study until 120 days after the study is released.
Vines said the academy has filed an extension request with the BLM.
The National Research Council is the principal operating arm of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering and is a private, nonprofit organization.
