Letter: Don’t keep a good kid down
Friday, Sept. 17, 1999 | 9:24 a.m.
I'm writing in response to the article titled "Pac-10 back may be headed for Rebels" (Sept. 6).
Why was it necessary to include the names of Jason White and Ramin White in this article?
Neither of these gentlemen is planning to come to UNLV. The article is only about Kevin Brown possibly coming to UNLV.
Would it not be equally effective to make your point about his (stolen property charges) by simply stating "Brown along with two of his teammates ... "
I am a new resident of Las Vegas, and just happen to be the father of Jason White. You know nothing of my son, only what you have read concerning this incident. If this type of behavior was ongoing, you would not have heard from me, but this error in judgment was completely out of character for Jason.
Many kids make mistakes and I'm sure you have written many articles in respect to the UNLV players who have made mistakes. There is no need to keep throwing it up in their faces.
Read your article and put your son's name in the place of either Jason or Ramin, and make sure you read it in the mind set of a good father who knows he has a good son that made a extremely bad decision.
Try to get to know something about the people whose names you print, and print only the names that are necessary to make your point.
Life is not about keeping people down.
