Letter: Bush, GOP would destroy economy
Friday, Sept. 17, 1999 | 8:58 a.m.
To those the polls keep reporting are suffering from "Clinton fatigue" I would ask does this "fatigue" extend to the lowest unemployment rate in 30 years, the 2 percent inflation rate, almost 20 million new jobs created in six and one half years, 6 percent mortgage rates, etc.?
Do you actually think that "Dubya" Bush would continue this process when the likelihood is that he would take us back to the almost 8 percent unemployment rate and generally lackluster economy of his pop?
The chances are very good that the oxymoronic (compassionate conservative) Bush would be a mere figurehead for Tom Delay, Phil Gramm, Trent Lott, Dick Armey, Bob Barr, and would sign every bill containing all the mean ideas the GOP has promoted unsuccessfully over the past 70 years, which would result in the wholesale dismantling of all the programs and policies you have taken for granted all your lives. Talk about "fatigue"!
All this presupposes, of course, that the GOP holds the House and Senate and that Bush wins. A pretty big order in spite of the fact the poll in numbers reflect a lot of people who know the name George Bush and don't know who Al Gore is.
The ironic part of this whole thing is that Al Gore and Bill Bradley are clean as a whistle scandal wise. So how could "Clinton fatigue" extend to them anyway? That's why I think the polls mean absolutely nothing!
