News service names Rebels’ Froehlich an All-American

UNLV sophomore forward Linda Froehlich has been selected as a preseason All-American by the Women's Basketball News Service as it released its preseason top-25 poll and All-America teams Wednesday.
Froehlich, who is from Oldendorf, Germany, was selected to the third team. Following her rookie season at UNLV, she was named the National Freshman of the Year by both the Women's Basketball Journal and the United States Basketball Writers' Association. In addition, she was chosen as the WAC Mountain Division Freshman of the Year and to the All-WAC first team after leading the league in scoring (23.5 ppg).
The Lady Rebels return two starters and four letter winners from a team that registered a 17-11 record in 1998-99, becoming the nation's most improved Division I team from the year prior.
The rest of the Mountain West Conference was also well represented by the news service.
Colorado State is listed No. 23 in the preseason poll and welcomes a fourth team preseason all-freshman selection in Elizabeth English (Rushville, Ind.).
BYU claimed top billing in the rookie category with guard Erin Thorn (Orem, Utah) being named the national Preseason Freshman of the Year.
