Letter: Mexicans integral part of Las Vegas
Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999 | 10:16 a.m.
First, Mr. Gunther, the politicians whom you blame for the existing choice of Americans of Mexican heritage to speak Spanish are not spineless. The elected politicians are, in fact, decent legislators elected by "we the people."
Mr. Gunther, please open your eyes and look around Las Vegas, the fastest growing city in the USA. As you see, there are a lot of Mexicans doing hard work in the building industry, and they also do most of the landscaping and help to keep Las Vegas looking more aesthetic. As to rights, Mr. Gunther, no one demands them, as we live in a country that affords free speech and human dignity.
In closing, Mr. Gunther, please rid yourself of any hate disguised as your concern to what is becoming of America. America is not going to be doomed, but will progress to even higher levels of attainment due to Americans of various descents.
Mr. Gunther, I am retired from the U.S. Army (Special Forces "Green Berets"). I tell you, sir, the Mexican-American has served our great country with honor and pride. I could go on and on, but I think that my point has been made.
