Investigators said Sunday's accident occurred near the summit of the highway when Srikanth Kannan, 24, of Sacramento, Calif., made a U-turn and was struck by an oncoming vehicle driven by Charles Uhrig, 46, of Incline Village.
Passenger Laksmi Kannan, 49, was flown to Washoe Medical Center where she died. The driver of that car, a 52-year-old passenger, Subramanian Kannan, and Uhrig were treated for injuries.
An investigation was continuing, but patrol spokesman Tony Almarez said it was apparent that Kannan made an unsafe U-turn.
