Letter: Speaking out is our citizens’ right

Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999 | 9:43 a.m.

It was ignorant for us to spill American blood and spend billions of dollars, which could have solved our many social problems, to again try to solve Europe's problems. Where is the promised peace in Kosovo? Where is the outcry for 200,000 Serb refugees and atrocities committed by the terrorist KLA?

In addition, the attack on American citizens in Waco was ill-advised and inept. Do you want law enforcement to violate our laws? Do you want our military to be used as law enforcement against our citizens? Do you want either to lie to Congress and the American people?

Milosevic and Koresh are not saints, martyrs or heroes, and my exercise of free speech doesn't make me unpatriotic or their supporter. Read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and you'll learn that our founders believed it was our duty and right, as citizens, to question government and when necessary to confront it. All citizens, even conservatives, have this right and duty.
