Henderson Police Capt. Michael Mayberry has been named acting Henderson Police chief.
City Manager Phil Speight announced the appointment of Mayberry to replace retiring Chief Tommy Burns. Mayberry will fill the position until at least the end of the year.
In a statement, Speight said that he has confidence in Mayberry's ability to lead the police department.
"Capt. Mayberry is familiar with the operations of the police department and is well qualified for the position," Speight said. "In the next few months we will review the needs of the department and the city before making a decision on recruitment for the position."
Mayberry joined the department in 1978, and has since, at one time or another, commanded all divisions of the department, including serving as commander in charge of operations and the investigations division of the detective bureau, as well as commanding the I.D. bureau, intelligence and narcotics units, communications, records bureau, civil processing, evidence, internal affairs, and the DARE unit.
