Letter: Fan to boycott UNLV football
Friday, Sept. 10, 1999 | 10:37 a.m.
I just wanted to drop you a note to tell you why this UNLV fan will not be coming to any UNLV football games this fall.
Wednesday morning I went down to the Thomas & Mack Center to buy three tickets for the Sept. 18 home opener against Iowa State. I did this knowing that approximately 7,000 seasons tickets had been sold and that individual game tickets went on sale on Tuesday the 7th. I was absolutely floored when the ticket agent told me the best available seats I could get were in section 104, row 35 -- which looked to be at about the 10-yard line on the open end of the stadium. This is absolutely ridiculous.
The ticket agent told me that the western-facing sideline was sold out from (or is it reserved for) season ticket sales -- and that the eastern-facing side was reserved for scholarship donors.
These are the same scholarship donors who don't show up to football games, leaving that side empty and pitiful looking at every single home game.
This is not Michigan. This is not Notre Dame. This is freakin' UNLV! There are close to 40,000 seats in that stadium. There's no reason why I shouldn't be able to get decent seats for a UNLV football game, especially when it's the second day of individual game sales.
I do not wish to purchase season tickets because I will be out of town for three of the five home games. But yet, an ordinary fan like me, who doesn't want to buy season tickets and who is not a scholarship donor, gets the shaft.
