He interviewed (among others) Mel and Norma Gabler, who have been "waging war on textbook errors for over 37 years." Some examples cited by the Gablers:
Donaldson reported how, in 1992, the Gablers stood up "to an industry that sold $20 million worth of error-ridden history books to Texas schools."
Mrs. Gabler recalled that the publishers were fined $1.5 million and compelled to "take all their books back and bring back corrected copies to the state."
"So the publishers destroyed the bad books, right?" asked Donaldson.
"Oh, no," explained Mrs. Gabler, "they sold them to other states. We don't know how many states are using them."
