Bomb turns out to be clothes in bank heist

Police and the FBI today are looking for two men in connection with a pair of unrelated bank robberies that took place Wednesday.

An early morning robbery at Nevada State Bank, 201 S. Fourth St., caused Metro Police to evacuate the building after a suspicious case was left at the scene.

Later Wednesday morning another robbery occurred at the Norwest Bank, 3104 N. Rainbow Blvd.

In the Nevada State Bank robbery, a white man believed to be about 60 years old with blond hair handed the teller a backpack, which he said had a bomb in it. He left the bank with an undetermined amount of money.

The Las Vegas Fire Department bomb squad later found clothing in the backpack.

In the Norwest Bank robbery, a man who reportedly had a gun, robbed a teller and escaped with an undetermined sum of money.

The man is described as black, between 20 and 25 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and about 145 pounds.

Anyone with information about the crimes are asked to call Secret Witness at 385-5555.
