Four current or former legislators from Las Vegas are among the 10 women to be honored by the Nevada Women's Lobby Thursday in Reno.
Former Sen. Lori Lipman Brown, Assemblywomen Barbara Buckley and Chris Giunchigliani and former Assemblywoman Renee Diamond, all Las Vegas Democrats, are being cited for their work in improving the state of women and children.
Others being singled out by the lobby are former Sen. Diana Glomb and Sen. Bernice Mathews, both Reno Democrats, and Assemblywomen Marcia deBraga of Fallon, Jan Evans of Sparks, Vivian Freeman of Reno and former Assemblywoman Joan Lambert of Reno. Lambert is the only Republican in the group.
Sarah Chvilicek, a founding member of the lobby, said Sue Wagner of Reno will be recognized as the first woman elected lieutenant governor, and Sen. Dina Titus, R-Las Vegas, will be honored as the first woman minority or majority leader.
Two first-term lawmakers, Sen. Maggie Carlton, D-North Las Vegas, and Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie, D-Reno, are being named "rising stars."
