Big Dog's Cafe will host a dinner and smoker at 6 p.m. Sept. 16 to benefit the UNLV Football Foundation.
UNLV football coach John Robinson will attend the event at 6390 W. Sahara Ave. Tickets can be purchased for $75 in advance at all Big Dog's Hospitality Group locations and from the UNLV Football Foundation, 895-3454.
Beneficiary information available at fair
The Nevada Beneficiary Coalition will be holding a Medicare Beneficiary Information Fair 10 a.m.-noon Monday at the Howard Cannon Center, 340 N. 11th St.
Representatives from the Health Care Finance Administration, Senior Friends, Pacificare and others will also be participating. Call 486-3545.
Former mayor to speak at Friday luncheon
The International Association of Business Communicators Las Vegas will feature as guest speaker former Las Vegas Mayor Jan Laverty Jones at its September luncheon.
The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Las Vegas Country Club, 3000 Joe W. Brown Drive.
The cost is $20 for members and students; $25 for nonmembers. Reservations are required by today and can be made by calling IABC's message center at 391-5517.
Benefit tournament scheduled on Saturday
The inaugural Las Vegas Valley "mudd" volleyball tournament to benefit Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Station's outdoor recreation area.
Teams can pick up entry forms at any Station Casinos hotel, Catholic Charities thrift stores or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to Catholic Charities, 808 S. Main St.
The entry fee for a nine-member team is $150. For additional information, call Allan Johnson at 385-2662.
Registration begins for Wellspring classes
Wellspring Bible Institute will hold registration for the new school year that begins Saturday.
Programs are available for men and women who desire to seriously study the Bible. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish.

Women's auxiliary sets opening meeting Saturday
The opening meeting of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army Carlton E. Edwards Center, 2900 Palomino Lane.

Organization will honor its 'angels'
Trauma Interventions Program is holding an awards luncheon to honor its "angels" beginning at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 16 at the Nellis Air Force Base Officers Club.
The cost is $20. Those being honored are former Councilman Arnie Adamsen, recipient of the first Phyllis Pine Award; Chief Ken Riddle, Las Vegas Fire Department, and Ty James, of Albertson's. RSVP by Friday by calling 894-0903.
