Plans for Enterprise Township to be discussed at public meeting

Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999 | 10:02 a.m.

The city of Henderson plans to hold a public meeting tonight to discuss transportation routes and possible land uses for the part of Enterprise Township that it hopes to annex.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Silver Springs Recreational Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway, Henderson. City officials are hoping residents will offer their opinions on the latest draft of the land use and transportation plan.

"We would like to have landowners turn out and give us their comments and feedback on the plan," city planner Stephanie Garcia said. She added that the annexation itself would not be discussed at Tuesday's meeting because residents need to understand the city's plans for Enterprise first.

"We feel that this (land use and transportation plan) is enough for residents to try to take in right now," Garcia said.

Included in the plan are possible future school sites, including 10 elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. The high school, Garcia said, might be a high school combined with a community college.

Also to be considered in the draft plan are sites for future fire stations and 365 acres of public parks.

"We estimate that close to 60,000 people will eventually live in this area once it's developed, and we have to plan for that," Garcia said.

Henderson has an eye on about 6,000 acres along Lake Mead Drive to create a southern gateway to the community from the current Sloan exit off Interstate 15.

The plan would include several sections of Enterprise Township, which is located in unincorporated Clark County, along with a large portion of Bureau of Land Management land.
