Letter: America must stop invasion
Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999 | 9:40 a.m.
When this happens some Spanish-speaking people are vociferous in their whining and never-ending crying, charging racism.
Our spineless politicians are silent. The Aug. 30 edition of the Sun had an article about a border town in Texas which voted to establish Spanish as the official language of the town, and to not cooperate with the Immigration Service on illegal aliens. And a former Cuban mayor of Miami states that if one does not speak Spanish in Miami in the next few years, he or she will not be able to do business there.
Why are our politicians silent? Very simply, our self-serving officials are creating a dependency constituency, which will vote to ensure their incumbency.
Very few Americans would deny people trying to better their lives, including this writer. But the uncontrolled influx is creating a social upheaval that will bring about an explosive situation. Too many of these so-called immigrants do not respect our country, customs and our way of life.
They demand arrogantly their rights, when they do not have the right to even be in our great country. If the American people do not soon wake up and demand our elected officials put a stop to this invasion, America is doomed.
